DOES YOUR BLOG STILL WORK FOR YOU? 6 QUICK FIXES

Here at Live. Love. Blog we have noticed that quite a few people seem to be falling out of love with their current blogs. Some of these people seem a little lost in the direction they want to take their blog, so we decided that it would be a good idea for me to chat to you today about some quick and inexpensive ways that you can rebrand your blog so that it starts to work for you again. Hopefully you will fall back in love with it too! The problem stems mainly from how our ideas of our blog and our experience grows over time and this means that from time to time we outgrown our blogs in their current form, but there’s no need to ditch them completely, you just need to refocus them.

Rebranding can be expensive if you get a professional company involved, but really there’s so much you can do on a budget and more importantly things that you can do yourself. Here’s how;

Assess your current blog

  • What are your blog ambitions? If you’re blogging purely as a hobby or a creative outlet, then you have a little more freedom to make your blog look exactly how you want it to look. However, if you want your blog to bring in an income, you need to treat it like a business and so it needs to look professional. No this doesn’t mean devoid of personality, but you need to inject your personality into your blog in a more subtle way.

  •  Simply write a list of all the aspects that you like. Add in the things that still work for you and the people who use your blog.

  • What don’t you like?

O.k, so now you have these three lists you will know where to focus your efforts and what to change in your rebrand.

Creating consistency develops trust in your readers and potential new ones.

A style guide is a really useful thing to have, as it helps you create consistency on your visual style. In your style guide you will detail your content format, the colour schemes of your blog, graphic style, even text style and fonts. When all of this is written down it will make developing the all important consistency a breeze.  When you have this guide, stick to it. If you chop and change your style, you can start to lose your followers’ confidence.

Now that you have a guide, here are 6 quick fixes you can make right now and they cost very little, if anything at all;

  • Your blog name and header: Do you like your blog name? Or it that what’s putting you off your blog? There’s so much to consider if you decide to change your name, but this doesn’t mean it’s the wrong thing to do.  You can create your own header in Picmonkey or Canva, make sure the color and style fits in your style guide too.

  • Your blog theme: Changing your blog them can totally transform your blog. This sounds scary but in reality you can spend very little (we can be talking $25 to pick up a theme). It’s then quite easy to upload and activate your new theme and your blog will be transformed.

  • Your blog fonts, colors, and layouts: Use fonts that are clear and not too fussy. Make sure you have consistency across every page of your blog.

Although this will take time, it does mean you will have a lovely set of images which will be perfectly pinnable too!

  • Consider reshooting photos that aren’t in focus or that don’t fit in with your current style/aesthetic.

  • Change your social media descriptions/consistent profile picture: You need to use the description on each social media account to hook potential new readers.  It is so shocking the number of people that don’t do this.

So once you have worked through these points you will have a more consistent and professional blog, which serves you and your readers better.
